Safety First, Then Sight: What Regulate and Observe Taught Me About Healing
I’m just gonna say it.
For years I thought healing was something you earned through effort. More discipline. More information. More pushing through the exhaustion because quitting wasn’t an option and rest felt like falling behind.
I was wrong. And it took my body shutting down to teach me that.
Over the past two weeks I released the first two episodes of The Rooted Method™ series on YouTube: Regulate and Observe. If you’ve been following along, you already know these aren’t just teaching topics to me. They’re the two things I wish someone had grabbed me by the shoulders and told me over ten years ago, back when I was a nurse standing in an ICU learning the hard way what happens when a body never gets the chance to feel safe.
So let’s talk about what these two letters actually mean and why nothing else works until you start here.
R is for Regulate: Safety Before Expansion
Here’s the question I keep asking the women in my world, and I’ll ask you too: how many times have you tried to push yourself into more, more productivity, more growth, more healing, more success and your body simply would not cooperate?
You weren’t lacking discipline. You weren’t failing at mindset. You were dysregulated. And a dysregulated nervous system will never let you build anything that lasts.
I learned this in my own body first. Over ten years ago I was diagnosed with a chronic autoimmune disease my own immune system turning against me. Conventional medicine offered injections. Something in me said wait, there’s another way. But before I could get to the herbs, the diet, the deeper healing I had to deal with my nervous system. It was stuck in a constant state of alarm. Overstimulated. Under-nourished. Running on empty. And a body in that state isn’t interested in healing. It’s too busy surviving.
Your nervous system asks one question, every second of every day: am I safe? Everything from your hormones, your immune function, your digestion, your ability to think clearly and connect with people you love depends on the answer.

This is why so many high-achieving women, women doing everything “right” on paper, still feel stuck. Still feel sick. Still feel like they’re pushing against a wall they can’t see. They’re trying to grow from a state of survival. And you cannot expand what hasn’t first been made safe.
Regulation isn’t the boring prerequisite before the real work begins. Regulation is the real work. You cannot think your way into a regulated body. You cannot manifest your way there, or grind your way there. You have to feel your way there slowly, consistently, with compassion.
You don’t need to push harder. You need to feel safer. And from that place, everything else becomes not just possible, but natural.
O is for Observe: Awareness Creates Choice
Once your body starts to feel safe, something remarkable happens you can finally see yourself clearly.
This is where Episode 2 picks up. And I’ll be honest, this stage cracked something open in me that the physical healing alone never touched.
When I was deep in my own healing journey, I thought the work was mostly physical. Change the diet, add the herbs, reduce the stress, check the boxes. But what I kept running into, over and over, was myself. My patterns. The way I overrode my body’s signals because there was a to-do list waiting. The way I absorbed everyone else’s stress like it was my job. The inherited beliefs about what I was supposed to do, who I was supposed to be, how much I was supposed to give beliefs I had never once stopped to question.
I was living on autopilot. And autopilot was running a program that was keeping me sick.
Observation is not self-criticism. It’s not the loop of analyzing and judging and replaying that so many of us mistake for self-awareness. True observation is watching yourself your patterns, your triggers, your body, your emotions with curiosity instead of judgment. Because you cannot change what you haven’t truly seen. You cannot heal what you’re still pretending isn’t there.
Your triggers aren’t character flaws they’re information, pointing back to something that needed more care than it got the first time. Your burnout isn’t random it’s a pattern, and once you can read the early signals, you can intervene before you hit the wall. Your body isn’t betraying you when it aches or tightens or drops nit’s talking to you, the way it’s been trying to talk to you this whole time.

And here’s the part that ties it all together: a regulated nervous system is what makes true observation possible. When you’re in survival mode, you can’t observe, you can only react. Safety is what creates the space to see. This is why the order matters. This is why we built the foundation first.
Why I’m Telling You This
I know some of what I teach gets labeled “pseudoscience” by the very system I was trained inside of. I’ve heard the whispers. I’ve felt the judgment. And I’ve said it anyway because this was never just about me.
It’s about the woman reading this who has been told her exhaustion or chronic disease is a discipline problem or idiopathic. The one who has spent years managing herself instead of knowing herself. The one who is one honest breath away from remembering who she was before the world told her to stay small.
Healing is your nature. Freedom is your birthright. And the world needs what you carry diagnosis or not, permission or not.
